Jealousy - the killer of "cheer" in cheerleading

Jealousy - the killer of "cheer" in cheerleading

I've started and deleted this blog so many times that I can't keep track. But at the end of the day I believe in transparency and honesty over rose-coloured glasses.

So here it goes...

We are only insecure and jealous when we are threatened and feel like something can't be ours. If the energy that fuels this jealousy and the actions that ensue were re-directed to growing as an athlete, being inspired by those we are jealous of and believing you can be just as good - well we would all be better for it.

Trust yourself, believe in yourself, put in the work and you will not only grow as an athlete, but you will grow as a human.

The "Mean Girl" effect is alive and well and it destroys the self-worth and confidence of so many young girls that deserve so much better.

What's even more unfortunate is when this spills over into the lobby. Moms hating on kids, because they see them as a threat to their kid's position is next level bull$hit. Don't we want the best team we can form? No one is "owed" their position. We need to rally together versus letting egos get in the way. We need to be role models for our girls and we need to do better.

Trust me, I know it's hard when you see your kid want something so much and not get it. Last year my daughter was taken out of the air for the first time. She was devastated. I was devastated. But it was the role she needed to play at the time. Not only did she learn new things and grow as an athlete, but she learned valuable life lessons in the process.

In a world that is full of negativity, our kids have chosen a sport that generally speaking is supportive, uplifting and positive. Let's do better, encourage our littles to do better and support everyone around us...even if they are better than you...because one day you or your kid can be just as good.

Sincerely,

Erin
